Daniel's Ridge MX

Daniel's Ridge is a supercross track, mostly catering to the modern day bike crowd, young-ins from three years of age to their early twenties. I've  approached the owner, Richard Clippard, to allow us to start a vintage class; he has agreed so long as we can bring five or more riders. Initially, we may have to race in the "Enduro" moto (and scored separately), but with enough riders we will have the track to ourselves.

The upside is that Daniel's Ridge is located 15 miles from my residence, but it's also just 60 miles north of Charlotte, and within an hour or so from other major North Carolina cities, Asheville, Winston-Salem, etc. It's also an easy drive from the southwestern parts of Virginia, and the southern parts of West Virginia.

The downside is that, right now, we will have to compete on a supercross track, lots of jumps and whoops; it's not "vintage friendly", it's slow going thru the whoops and one must be careful on the doubles and triples. Two of us local vintage talent rode the track during an open practice session on March 25th, riding my CL72 and Redline/XL, and had a great time, even though the jumps and whoops commanded respect.

With more vintage riders (translates to $$$ in Clippard's pocket), there is enough property to lay out a more vintage friendly track, so that should be our goal as this racing season progresses.

Beginning April 5th 2000 the track will host open practice, every Thursday  evening from 6:00 to 10:00 ET. I've been a spectator during evening racing and can tell you that the track and pits are well lit. Plus, the entire track can be watered, Clippard has an extensive underground sprinkler system.

So, if you need a venue to "dial-in" your bike, prior to that next AHRMA race, Thursday evening at Daniel's Ridge may just be the ticket. The fee for practice sessions is $5.00 per rider and $1.00 per spectator.

The Saturday race series begins April 8th, 2000 and is as follows:

April 8 and 22, May 6 and 20, June 3 and 17, July 1, 15, and 29,
August 12 and 26, September 9 and 23.

Practice starts at 5:00 PM, racing at 6:00 PM.

Admission on race day is $8.00, entry is $15.00, one trophy will be awarded for each two riders, up to five trophies.

Initially, there will be no vintage class segments (that is, unless we have 20 to 30 riders show), it will be just "run-what-ya-brung" racing. With enough riders, and with some help in scoring this may change, we could emulate the AHRMA class structure if need be.

Track directions are:

From Taylorsville, NC, go four and one-half miles North on N.C. Hwy 16, turn right onto Vashti Road, go three miles to the stop sign, turn left and then travel one and one-half miles to the Daniels Ridge road, turn right, the track is 1/4 mile on the left.

From Interstate 40, the Highway 16 exit is just east of Hickory, travel north on Highway 16 to Taylorsville, approximately 15 miles.
